The New Orleans Hornets are expected to be renamed the New Orleans Pelicans by as soon as next season, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports. The nicknames "Brass" and "Krewe" were also in consideration, according to Yahoo. The Pelican is the state bird of Louisiana, and appears on the state seal, and the state flag.
The Hornets, who were relocated to New Orleans from Charlotte in 2002, will also most likely change their colors from teal and purple, to red, navy blue, and gold. This kind of makes me sad...the Hornets probably have some of my favorite jerseys right now.
Michael Jordan said earlier this November that he would like to change the Charlotte team's nickname back to Hornets if the opportunity arose, and it looks like it may have.
Thoughts? I personally think "Pelicans" sounds really dumb and not at all intimidating.

That's gotta be the worst sports name I've ever heard.
Pelicans are only intimidating to fish.
