Lets go sign guys to 10+ year multimillion dollar deals and then whine that we need more of the money. Maybe get a pair Scary Gary and move some of the failing teams that were doomed from the start. Atlanta moved for the second time in its history. Phoenix hasn't moved because the tool of the commissioner insists that they are still a viable team. I don't think its viable when some AHL markets could outdraw them. Gary just doesn't want to admit that many of the markets in the south had no business with a team form the start. How about move or fold some of these failing teams instead of screwing the whole league who has to makeup for their issues. Maybe its time the NHL get a commissioner who can do his job more than 10%.
This pretty well sums up Scary and how he's done...

If the owners and players can't agree on a new collective bargaining agreement by the time the current one expires Sept. 15, the National Hockey will have its second lockout in eight years, commissioner Gary Bettman said today.
Owners and players have been meeting again this week in New York to negotiate a new agreement in an attempt to avoid another lockout like the one that wiped out the entire 2004-05 season.
"We reiterated to the union that the owners will not play another year under the current agreement," Bettman said according to a Tweet by Arthur Staple, who covers the New York Islanders for Newsday.
According to a Washington Post story, NHL revenues reached an all-time high of $3.3 billion last season, believed to be a $1 billion increase since the last lockout.
Concessions the owners are asking the players to make include a decrease in hockey related revenues from 57 percent to 46. Owners also want to limit contracts to five years, eliminate arbitration and lengthen the waiting period for free agency from seven years to 10
According to a Tweet by Katie Strang, the hockey writer for ESPNNY.com, Bettman said revenue sharing is one of the biggest issue dividing the two sides.
Until today, both sides had been saying they were optimistic an agreement could be reached by Sept. 15.
Detroit Red Wings general manager thinks it's a good sign the two sides have been meeting regularly since last month, something that he said didn't happen in 2004.
"Anytime they're meeting, there's optimism," Holland said. "There's reason for optimism because they're meeting on a weekly basis and I know they've got more meetings planned for the rest of August.
"That's got me optimistic."
