RIP Dan Wheldon.
What a horrible crash... One of the rare times that the car didn't do it's job in protecting the driver.

That was probably the scariest thing I've seen in my life. RIP.

IRL cars aren't that safe imo. Open cockpit can be just as dangerous as bikes. I am surprised it doesn't happen more then it does, rookie was killed in 06' in these things.
RIP Dan Weldon

RIP Dan. This is so terrible. This is going to be one of the biggest sports stories of the year.

Steve Jobs now Dan Wheldon...October is a month of great loss. one big difference though, it was no secret Jobs had health issues. Weldon was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and cya. I hope the IRL finds something here that they can use to improve the safety of their cars. 2deaths since 05' isn't great considering its been over 10years(going on 11) since NASCAR has had a death of any sort. They have had very few major injuries occur during their races even, i think maybe 2-4 broken feet in 10years. Just saying the IRL needs to try to implement the stuff NASCAR uses, I know some of it won't work since the IRL is open wheel but I am sure somethings they could use.

Steve Jobs now Dan Wheldon...October is a month of great loss. Dennis Ritchie also recently died. You may not know who he is, but he created the C computer programming language. You may not know what that is, but it's played a major role with things like the products Steve Jobs came up with.

I hope the IRL finds something here that they can use to improve the safety of their cars. I remember hearing yesterday that they were going to a safer kind of car in 2012, and I think Wheldon was testing the car behind the scenes or something like that. I don't know what's going to be safer about the new cars, though. EDIT: Okay, I found it. I was right... Link: Where does the IndyCar Series go from here? [Yahoo! Sports - The Marbles]

Both are still monumental people in their own areas, jobs for Apple and Wheldon for motorsports as a whole.

Jobs was monumental for the whole tech industry, not just Apple. Some technology he invented is used by industry in various items.

Jimmie Johnson said Indy Car should not be racing on ovals because of how dangerous it gets. Especially at Las Vegas cars get over 200 mph. Also I don't like when they show the videos of the actual crash on ESPN.

No surprise...I've said before and I'll say it again, ESPN is bunch of pricks. They showed more of the Crosby update conference BS then the crash that killed, at the time, all but 1player on the KHL Lokomotiv hockey team. It took several hours for it to be a featured story on the front page, a crash that killed 43/45 on board took that long to be a big story. It was on that day that I lost what little respect I had for ESPN.
