Woke up to this news this morning. A bunch of former NHLers on this flight. Link: Russian jet carrying hockey team crashes, 43 dead [Yahoo! Sports, via AP] The summer (it's still summer even though it's after Labor Day, don't care) of hockey hell continues. EDIT: We have video. Nothing in terms of crash footage, but I'm not going to imbed it. From an English-language Russian TV station, with some updated news (at the time the field report was made): Video.

that's the event that came to mind for me as well. more died in that one, but i would say this is 2nd only b/c of the death toll difference. The season needs to start already, hockey has had a very rough summer.

There's one crew member of the plane that is still alive, but he is in serious condition. This is so sad, none of the team lived, and to top it off, seven crew members died as well.

The player had severe burns on 90% of his body, it was almost a given that he wouldn't survive. Medical science is good, but not good enough to save you from being burned on almost your entire body. This is by far the worst incident in hockey imo.
