Yeah I hear ya. I've had some referees over the years that I wonder how they can do it.
I recently got certified to referee for the USSF (United States Soccer Federation). You only a 70 to pass the test.

Only need to get a 70?
So you only have to pass to be a referee?

Hey, I happen to be a former soccer referee and Im considering taking it up again next year. So be careful around me if you answer no to this question. Obviously, since Im "one of them" Im going to say that yes, I do like referees. Now thats not to say that their are a few officials out there who do not take their job as seriously as the rest of us, and that is truly a shame. One of the biggest complaints I have heard in the past is that soccer referees that do a bad job "are not qualified". Well, Im here to explain to you all today that in order to become a soccer referee (at least in the US) you need to attend a three full day training class and then pass a 100 question test by scoring at least 80% of the questions correctly. After you are registered, you must attend 5 hours of training every year and pass an annual 50 question test in order to remain a referee. So just to inform everyone, their are no idiot/unqualified referees, there are just a FEW lazy ones.

That doesn't help the ones we consider bad referees one bit, so they really know what they should be doing and still insist in turning the blind side... xD
That aside it is pretty cool you used to be a referee, so what was your best and wors experience as a referee/
Why did you left it and what is making you considering so much to take it again?
It is okay if you don't want to get personal in your answers, or if i asked more than I am should, my apologises, I just found it really exciting. xD
I have seen excellent referees but usually the bad ones are the first to be noticed, specially when they favour so openly one team by not marking them fouls and marking invisible penalties to favour them. >=\

There are good ones that do their jobs, but there are ones that dont know anything about soccer.

The ones that are fair, and don't stick for one side are good. Say, if I'm from Team A playing Team B and the ref is from Team B's school, that's unfair.

I like the refs. I know they don't always call the right call because they have to look at so many different things. I myself volunteer for a soccer organization and its hard to figure out what to call. Once you get the hang of it its pretty easy though, but there are always those plays that you don't know what to call

I don't mind a few screw ups, but some of them are obviously biased towards one side, those are the ones I don't like.

Isn't this more of a referee by referee question? I like some, some are idiots. I still respect them for having the balls though.

I think that in order to become a referee you should have to answer every question right. I don't watch Soccer, so I don't know about the Soccer referees. But in Football, there is so much more a ref has to watch, but when they make a bad call and don't correct themselves out of sheer ignorance, I hate them.

The refs from one of the local school's my team plays against, they are so unfair. They cost us a game in football on a horrible call, in basketball the games against them the refs don't stop the players from trash talking and bumping into us on purpose, it's so annoying, the refs will see the whole thing and just ignore it. Most referees are alright but some of them I can't stand.

I do like referees, simply because without one, you can't run a game. And they still rule over the game even though they know they won't be loved by the supporters if they make a move against their team.
